Manchester Academy 1–Students, Sticky Floors and Live Music

Manchester Academy 1 is one of the best known of Manchesters many live music venues. Its been around long enough to develop a reputation and continues to book strong touring bands.

Manchester 1 is right in the heart of University territory. If you have any reservations about enjoying some music around the student population, youll need to steer clear. That would be a mistake, though. If theres one thing Manchester Academy 1 has going for it, its the great crowd vibe that accompanies just about every show.

The acoustics are surprisingly good for a big rectangular room and the Academy seems to have found that perfect size–still intimate but large enough to generate a good crowd and to attract name bands.

The downside? Well, its been around awhile and its not the prettiest venue in the world. Its dark, the floors can be a little sticky and youre sure to have a hard time finding someone tending bar when the place gets busy. In other words, its a traditional, gritty little rock and roll venue–and theres nothing wrong with that!

Manchester Academy 1 has been a part of the citys nightlife for years and that tradition doesnt appear to be grinding to a halt any time soon. If youre around Manchester, look to see wholl be there. You might have a chance to check out a great show in a old school rock venue.
